Test Code ASPRB or LAB2135 Aspirin Resistance Assay, Blood

Important Note

Due to transport time limitations and sample requirements, this test can only be collected at one of the main campus draw sites listed below.

Test must be collected using 1.8 mL size BD or 2.0 mL size Greiner sodium citrate tubes. (Do not collect 2.7mL size Tubes.)

 

Specimen Requirements

Specimen Type:

Whole blood

Container Type:

Optimal: Two 1.8 mL BD or two 2.0 mL Greiner sodium citrate tubes

 

Acceptable: One 1.8 mL BD or one 2.0 mL Greiner sodium citrate tube

Unacceptable: 2.7 mL sodium citrate tubes

 

Optimal Collection Volume:
  • Greiner: Fill to black arrow marked on tube
  • BD: Fill to etched line on tube
Collection Instructions:
  1. Gently invert sample 5-10 times to mix the blood.
  2. If collected through a blood collection set (butterfly), a discard tube must first be drawn to eliminate dead space from the tubing.

Processing Instructions:
  1. Do not centrifuge the sample.
  2. Testing must not be performed sooner than 10 minutes or later than 4 hours after collection.

Turbidimetric-based optical detection, which measures platelet-induced aggregation.

Reference Ranges

Reference Range and Reporting Units

≥ 550 ARU: No platelet dysfunction has been detected, indicating the anti-platelet effect is absent.

< 550 ARU: Platelet dysfunction of Aspirin has been detected.
