Test Code IFES Pathologist order only: Immunofixation Electrophoresis, Serum
Additional Codes
LAB174
Methodology
Immunofixation
Includes identification of monoclonal gammopathies and
pathologist interpretation.
Immunofixation electrophoresis of serum is most often ordered to evaluate a monoclonal globulin detected in protein electrophoresis or to delineate a possible lymphoproliferative process, particularly myeloma. This procedure will characterize the specific light- and heavy-chain components of a monoclonal protein. The pathologist may order quantitative immunoglobulins to further evaluate any monoclonal protein detected.
