Specimen Requirements

Container Type:

Heparinized syringe, whole blood

 

 

Optimal Collection Volume: 

One syringe (2 mL whole blood)

Minimum Volume:

0.5 mL

Collection Instructions:
  1. Patient should be in a supine position and relaxed.
  2. Once the specimen is collected, send it promptly to the lab.
Specimen Transport:

Refrigerate

Processing Instructions: 
  1. Bring the specimen directly to chemistry and place it in the ice bin.
  2. Keep the specimen on ice until it is ready for testing.

Specimen Stability

Assay as soon as possible. Specimens are stable at room temperature for 30 minutes and 2 hours on ice.
