Test Usage
The Urea Breath Test is intended for use in the qualitative detection of urease associated Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) in the human stomach and as an aid in the initial diagnosis and post-treatment monitoring of H. pylori infection in adult patients. The test may be used for monitoring treatment if used at least 4 weeks following completion of therapy.
NOTE: Patient should wait 24 hours after drinking the Citrica solution if repeat testing is needed.

Specimen Requirement
Collection Instructions:
Do not collect if one of the following conditions applies:
patient is <3 years old.
Patient is on a ventilator or is unable to drink fluid due to:
- allergic to phenylalanine
- allergic to citrus
- allergic to mannitol
If these conditions apply, or any other conditions that would prevent the patient from drinking the fluid, please perform H.pylori stool PCR (HPFRP)
Fasting ( 1 hour )
The patient should not have taken antimicrobials, proton pump
inhibitors (Priolsec, Prevacid, Aciphex, Protonix, Omeprazole and Nexium) or
bismuth preparations ( Pepto-Bismol) within 2 weeks prior to
administering the BreathTek UBT. (Histamine blockers (H2) (Zantac 360)
antagonists do not affect test results.)
Have patient take a deep breath, hold it for 4-5 seconds and blow
breath into Baseline bag until full. Give patient urea drink
(contains phenyalanine) and wait 15 min. Then have patient take a
deep breath, hold it for 4-5 seconds and blow breath into Post Dose
bag until full. Be sure to put patient name and time of collection
on each bag.
