Test Code FOBI Occult Blood, Stool (FIT)
Methodology
OC-light FIT S Immunoassay performed at Bronson Battle Creek Laboratory
OC-Auto FIT Immunoassay performed at Bronson Methodist Laboratory. Samples collected at Bronson South Haven Laboratory and Bronson Lakeview Laboratory will be performed at Bronson Methodist Laboratory.
The OC-FIT immunoassay method for fecal occult blood has no dietary restrictions.
Please note the following limitations:
- This method detects intact human hemoglobin. It is not intended for detection of upper GI bleeding due to the breakdown of hemoglobin during intestinal transit. However in cases of extreme GI bleeding it is possible for this test to be positive. The Mayo test HemoQuant (HQ) may be useful in investigating possible upper GI bleeding.
- Patients with the following conditions should not be considered for testing as these conditions may contaminate the stool and cause false positive test results:
- Bleeding hemorrhoids
- Constipation bleeding
- Urinary bleeding
- Menstrual bleeding
