Specimen Requirements

Specimen Type: Whole blood

Container/Tube: Lavender top (EDTA)

Stability: 72 hours if refrigerated

Specimen Volume: 5 mL

Specimen Minimum Volume: 1 mL

Collection Instructions:

1. Gently invert 5 to 10 times to mix blood.

2. If specimen was centrifuged, mix well and resuspend cells before testing.

3. Cause for rejection includes gross hemolysis or clotted specimen.
