Methodology
Immunofixation Includes identification of monoclonal gammopathies and pathologist interpretation.
Immunofixation electrophoresis of urine is most often ordered to evaluate a monoclonal globulin detected in a protein electrophoresis or to delineate a possible lymphoproliferative process, particularly myeloma. This procedure will characterize the specific light- and heavy-chain components of a monoclonal protein. Pathologist may order quantitative immunoglobulins to further evaluate any monoclonal protein detected.
