Test Code UPCR or LAB743 Protein/Creatinine Ratio, Urine

Important Note

The urine albumin/creatinine ratio is more sensitive than the urine protein/creatinine ratio. Please see the December 2021 LabWire for details.

The National Kidney Foundation guidelines for the management of patients with diabetes and albuminuria recommend that all type 1 diabetic patients older than 12 years and all type 2 diabetic patients younger than 70 years have their urine tested for albuminuria yearly when they are under stable glucose control. The order Urine albumin/creatinine ratio (LAB689), is the appropriate request for this, not the Urine Protein Creatinine Ratio.
