Test Code TOXOG or LAB501 Toxoplasma gondii IgG, Serum

Important Note

Note: If the Toxoplasma IgG is positive, a reflex test TOXMMR (LAB659) is performed to help determine if the infection is recent. If the Toxoplasma IgM is positive,  Mayo recommends sending the specimen to the Palo Alto Medical Foundation for confirmatory testing.

Useful For

Determining whether a patient has had previous exposure to or recent infection with Toxoplasma gondii. The presence of IgG antibodies indicates that the individual has been infected with toxoplasma in the past, but the level of reactivity does not indicate how recently the infection occurred.
