Important Note

Please note:  Specimen must arrive within 45 minutes of collection to perform all testing.  See Specimen Requirements for further information.

Semen Collection Instructions and Patient Form

Specimens may only be dropped off at the Outpatient Testing Center on the Main Bronson Campus in Kalamazoo or Battle Creek Hospital Outpatient location. Due to the need to perform testing promptly, specimens cannot be dropped off at other service locations.

Bronson Lakeview Laboratory and Bronson South Haven Laboratory no longer performs Semen Analysis for fertility. Please have patient drop specimen off at Main Bronson Campus in Kalamazoo or Battle Creek.

Test is performed Monday through Friday (7 a.m.- 5 p.m.)

Methodology

Includes viscosity, stained smear for presence of
spermatocytes and spermatogonia, percent motile, percent normal and
abnormal morphology, total count, motility, color, character, total
volume, pH, and presence of WBCs or bacteria reported (if
noted).

Specimen Requirements

Testing must be performed within 60 minutes of collection therefore sample must arrive in lab within 45 minutes of collection to allow time to complete testing.  If sample arrives up to 2 hours after collection, only testing that is not time sensitive will be performed.  Any sample received more than 2 hours after collection will be rejected.


Specimen accepted Monday through Friday between 7 a.m.
to 5 p.m at the Outpatient Testing Center in Main Bronson
Campus Only or Bronson Battle Creek Main Laboratory on College St.    Due to the need to perform testing
immediately, samples cannot be dropped of at other service
locations.

plastic container.

Specimen Volume: Entire ejaculate

Collection Instructions:

1. Patient should have 3 days of sexual abstinence at time
of semen collection for accurate results. Follow physician’s
instructions.

2. Forward promptly at body temperature only. Do not
allow specimen to become chilled.

3. Causes for rejection include specimen not delivered to
laboratory within 1 hour of collection, chilled specimen, or
specimen collected in soft, plastic container. Condom or
soft, plastic container is not acceptable.
