Useful For
This is hemoglobin with the iron atom oxidized to the ferric (Fe 3+) state and is incapable of oxygen binding. Methemoglobin concentrations of two or three percent indicate an abnormal condition caused by toxic agents such as phenacetin, nitrates, or chlorates.
