Methodology

Papanicolaou Stain

Includes routine cytologic evaluation of monolayer prepared slide.

Used to aid in the diagnosis of certain malignant,
non-neoplastic or inflammatory conditions.

Specimen Requirements

Specimen Type: Bronchial, esophageal,
gastrointestinal tract, or urinary tract brushings

Container/Tube: Cytolyt

Specimen Volume: Brush

Collection Instructions: 

1. Label prefilled Cytolyt container with patient’s full name, date of
birth, date of collection, and source of specimen.

2. Brush lesion area.
3. Place brush into the Cytolyt container and agitate. 
 

Additional Information: Causes for
rejection include improper labeling.

Forms: Pathology requisition; include
patient’s full name, date of birth, specimen source, date of
service, and pertinent clinical history
