Methodology
This test can be useful in determining if the cause of thrombocytopenia is due to a lack of production or an increase in the destruction of platelets.
The test result includes the percentage of circulating young platelets.
Specimen Requirements
Specimen Type: Whole blood
Container/Tube: Lavender top (EDTA)
Specimen Volume: 3 mL
Specimen Minimum Volume: 0.4 mL or 1 EDTA

Collection Instructions:
1. Gently invert 5 to 10 times to mix blood.
2. Do not centrifuge.
3. Cause for rejection include: clotted specimen specimen > 24 hours old
