yield a 45% to 55% hematocrit unit of about 400 mL volume.

anticipated and for specimen requirements as needed.

 

Specimen Type: Whole blood

Container/Tube: Pink top (EDTA dry
anticoagulant) tube for mother; 1 lavender-top (EDTA) MICROTAINER
for infant

Specimen Volume: Mother 6 mL/infant
1.5 mL

Collection Instructions:

1. Give total volume needed for exchange.

2. Provide as much advance notice as possible.

3. Turnaround time is usually 2 to 6 hours depending on
availability of fresh, compatible blood.
