Test Code IFEUAD Pathologist Order Only: Urine Immunofixation - Add-on to Urine Protein Electrophoresis

Important Note

NOTE: This test is only orderable by laboratory staff at the direction of a pathologist.

The urine IFE is not orderable by itself. If a request for an IFEU is received, the order code UPIFE is to be used instead.

Reference Values

An interpretive report will be provided.

Methodology

Immunofixation

Includes identification of monoclonal gammopathies and pathologist interpretation.

Immunofixation electrophoresis of serum is most often ordered to evaluate a monoclonal globulin detected in protein electrophoresis or to delineate a possible lymphoproliferative process, particularly myeloma. This procedure will characterize the specific light- and heavy-chain components of a monoclonal protein. A pathologist may order quantitative immunoglobulins to evaluate further any monoclonal protein detected.

Test Classification and CPT Coding

86335 - Immunofixation electrophoresis

Please Note: Additional CPT and professional fee for the pathologist’s interpretation may be applied.
