  1. No preservative
  2. Refrigerate the container during the collection period.
  3. The 24-hour volume is required.
  4. The start and end dates and times of collection are required.

Specimen Transport:

Room Temperature, refrigerated is acceptable

Processing Instructions: 

  1. Measure and record the total volume of the urine collection.
  2. Vigorously shake the entire urine container to ensure all its contents are adequately mixed.
  3. Pour off a portion of the urine into a false bottom tube.
    1. Optimally, the specimen should not be refrigerated.
    2. If the specimen arrives refrigerated, incubate the aliquot in a 37 C water bath for 30 minutes. Doing this will bring precipitates back into solution.
    3. Sample stability may be prolonged by adding NaOH to raise the pH to > 8.0

  4. Centrifuge the false bottom tube.
