Useful For

A positive direct Coombs’ test will be evaluated to determine the specificity of the immunoglobulin coating the red cell (IgG and/or C3). A positive polyspecific DAT will automatically reflex to an IgG DAT.

A complement DAT test is only performed by BMH dayshift and is performed when ordered as separate test or as part of a transfusion reaction investigation. For testing on infants, see CDWK - Cord Blood Testing for Suspected HDN. Infant's red cells will only be tested for IgG coating.
