Useful For
Platelets are given to stop bleeding from thrombocytopenia or platelet function abnormality.
Method Name
Infusion Instructions:
1. Number of units, priority, ordering physician,
and
date and time needed are required.
2. Infusion should begin as soon as possible after
component preparation.
3. Platelets should be administered rapidly.
4. Do not warm platelets.
5. Do not use microaggregate filters.

Sample Retention Time
Blood Bank specimens (other than Cord Blood) are retained in the Blood Bank for 30 days. Pretransfusion testing should be completed within 2 days of collection.
