Test Code TEG 6 Global Hemostasis with Lysis-Thromboelastography TEG 6 Global Hemostasis with Lysis
Additional Codes
Epic Order Code: | LAB4747 |
Specimen Required
Sodium Citrate (light blue top tube) 2.7mL or 1.8 mL correctlly (fully) filled to indicated line.
Collection Instructions: Use a 19 or 21 gauge needle. (butterfly with tubing is acceptable).
A discard tube or 3-5cc to be drawn first to clear the needle of any tissue thromboplastin released during the process of accessing the vein.
May be drawn from a A-line or similar line using a plastic syringe that is NOT heparinized. Start by filling a 10-20cc syringe.(This may be re-infused to the patient after collection is complete). Next use a new syringe to collect the appropriate volume for the specimen tube. Using a safe transfer device with a 20 gauge needle to allow the lithium heparin tube to fill completely.
Specimen labeled with an Epic chart label and the date and time drawn written on the label.

Utility
Indicated for adult patients where an evaluation of their blood hemostasis properties is desired. Commonly used to assess clinical conditions in a trauma setting to assess hemorrhage or thrombosis conditions.
Limitations
Results from the TEG 6s analysis should not be the sole basis for a patient diagnosis, but should be evaluated together with the patient’s medical history, the clinical picture and, if necessary, further hemostasis tests. The indication for TEG 6s System use is with adult patients where an evaluation of their blood hemostasis properties is desired. Hemostasis evaluations are commonly used to assess clinical conditions in cardiovascular surgery and cardiology procedures to assess hemorrhage or thrombosis conditions before, during and following the procedure.
No reference ranges have been established for patients under the age of 15 years.
