Specimen Requirements
- Collect 2-5 ml of CSF in a sterile container.
- DO NOT USE TUBE 1 FOR TESTING, Red blood cell contamination can affect results.
- Minimum volume 2 mls.
- aliquot into sterile tube and freeze imediateley.
- Use sterile red screw top tube found with sendout Mayo supplies.
Useful For
In CSF: Search for the presence of the 14-3-3 protein. The 14-3-3 protein is a marker for some prion diseases, such as Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD), when a number of other neurodegenerative conditions are excluded.
Shipping instructions (BMH Sendouts only)
Samples should be sent out by BMH Sendout department.
SAMPLE MUST BE SHIPPED ON DRY ICE, MAIL ONLY MONDAY-THURSDAY.
- Samples that are collected Friday-Sunday will be held in the freezer and shipped on Monday.
