Collect specimen and gently invert several times to mix. Label the specimen, in the presence of the patient, with full name, date of birth and patient medical record number. |

Useful For
Leukocyte-poor RBCs may be useful in the transfusion therapy of patients who have had more than 2 previous febrile transfusion reactions. Pre-filtered, leuko-reduced packed cells are cytomegalovirus (CMV) safe (equivalent to CMV seronegative blood products).
Bronson stocks only leuko-reduced packed red cells, which are CMV safe. The presence of unexpected antibodies will require additional time.

Blood Bank specimens (other than Cord Blood) are retained by the Blood Bank for 30 days. Pretransfusion testing should be completed within 2 days of collection.
