Specimen Requirements
Submit only 1 of the following specimens:
Preferred
Specimen Type: Whole blood
Container/Tube: Green top (heparin)
Specimen Volume: Full tube
Collection Instructions:
1. Invert several times to mix blood. Do not
centrifuge.
2. Cause for rejection includes partially filled tube as
the relatively increased heparin concentration will falsely lower
ionized calcium results.

Container/Tube: Gold top serum gel
Specimen Volume: 5 mL
Specimen Minimum Volume: 1 mL
Collection Instructions: Spin down and
separate serum from clot immediately after draw.
