Specimen Requirements
Please call Bronson Laboratory Services at 269-341-6440 to
schedule procedure with Hematology at least 45 minutes prior to
aspiration. Indicate any cultures, biopsy, or other special
orders
such as if technologist assistance is needed to prepare slides,
cultures, cytogenetics, or flow cytometry.
Specimen source is required.
Specimen Type: Bone marrow aspirate
Container/Tube: Screw-capped, sterile
container
and slides
Specimen Volume: 0.5 mL and 6 slides
Collection Instructions:
1. Physician explains test procedure to patient.
2. Physician aseptically collects specimen.
3. Six well-made slides are prepared at bedside by
laboratory technologist.
4. Label container and slides with patient’s full
name, date of birth, date and time of collection, and source of
specimen.

Container/Tube: Screw-capped, sterile
container
Specimen Volume: >4 mm
Collection Instructions:
1. Physician explains test procedure to patient.
2. Physician aseptically collects specimen.
3. Biopsy is placed in fixative at bedside by laboratory
technologist.
4. Label container with patient’s full name, date
of
birth, date and time of collection, and source of specimen.
