Interpretation

Reference Values

One of the 5 following reports dependent on the weighted sum balance of Lactobacillus, Gardnerella/Bacteroides, and Mobiluncus species:

Grade 0:  No Bacteria Seen

Grade 1. Ison/Hay scoring suggests normal vaginal flora

Grade 2. Ison/Hay scoring Indeterminate

Altered vaginal flora not consistent with bacterial vaginosis. This frequently represents a transitional stage. If signs or symptoms persist, repeat testing is warranted.

Grade 3: Ison/Hay scoring suggests Bacterial Vaginosis

Grade 4: Ison/Hay scoring not applicable

Altered flora with organisms not associated with Bacterial Vaginosis.  Morphologies observed with premenarcheal and post-menopausal women.
