Useful For

Leuko-reduced red cells and platelets are CMV safe. CMV-negative or safe
products are indicated for infants who weigh <1200 g, and whose
mother is anti-CMV negative or her antibody status is unknown, and
for patients who are candidates for (or have received) bone marrow
or kidney transplants who are CMV negative. These patients are
less likely to develop CMV infections if they receive CMV-negative
blood products.
