Important Note

Specimen must be sent to the Blood Bank. Specimen is picked up by Versiti and transported to Blood Center of Wisconsin. Blood bank will receive a fax (BMH 269-341-7915 or BBC 269-963-0253) with the result and will result BBGENO with MMIC (The results and interpretation have been sent to the ordering physician or nursing unit under a spearate cover) into Smarterm. The resutls will be scanned into Epic and attached to the BBGENO order.

Collection Instructions:

Collect specimen and gently invert several times to mix. Label the specimen, in the presence of the patient, with full name, date of birth and patient medical record number. 

Processing Instructions: 

1. Collect sample in pink top container.

2. Label per policy in the presence of the patient.

3. Send whole blood sample to Blood Bank. 

Useful For

Multiple Myeloma patients being treated with a DARA drug will have this performed prior to receiving the medication to assist blood bank in providing compatible blood if future transfusion is required. DARA drugs have been known to interfere with normal antibody screening techniques in pretransfusion testing.
