Test Usage

Immune status testing: Determination of postimmunization immune response of individuals to the varicella zoster vaccine. 


Documentation of previous infection with varicella (chicken pox)  in an individual with no previous record of immunization to varicella zoster virus

Reference Values

< 0.9 Antibody Index:  Negative; Absence of detectable Varicella Zoster IgG antibodies. A negative result generally indicates that the patient has not been infected and is susceptible to measles. If the subject has not been previously vaccinated and exposure to chicken pox  is suspected despite a negative finding, a second sample should be collected and tested no less than one to two weeks later.


0.9-1.0 Antibody Index:  Equivocal; Repeat testing in 10-14 days.


>or = to 1.1 Antibody Index:  Positive; IgG antibody to Varicella Zoster detected which may indicate current or previous  exposure and/or immunization for Varicella Zoster.
