Methodology
Includes O2 saturation, pCO2, pH,
pO2, calculated CO2 content, base excess,
and
screening hemoglobin along with Sodium, Potassium and Chloride on
whole blood.
Specimen Requirements
Specimen Type: Venous whole blood
Container/Tube: Heparinized syringe.
Heparinized capillary tube is also acceptable.
Specimen Volume: 1 mL in syringe.
Avoid bubbles in sample.
Specimen Minimum Volume: 0.2 mL in sealed capillary tube
Collection Instructions:
1. Patient should be in supine position and relaxed.
2. Specimen must be kept on ice until it is delivered to
laboratory
